The Desi Calendar (also called Punjabi Calendar or Nanakshahi Calendar) is a solar-based calendar used for centuries by farming communities in Punjab, Pakistan. It divides the year into 12 months based on the Sun's position, keeping it perfectly aligned with agricultural seasons, weather and crop cycles.
The current system follows the Nanakshahi Calendar (557 NS in 2026), officially adopted in 1999 by the SGPC, and the older Bikrami Samvat (2083 BS in 2026). Unlike the lunar Islamic Hijri calendar, the Desi calendar is solar and fixed — every Sangrand falls on the same Gregorian date each year. Vaisakhi always falls on 14 April and Chet Sangrand always on 14 March.
